The Government of the Canary Islands, the Government of Cape Verde, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the ADS Biodiversity Association have joined their efforts a decade ago with the Pelagos project to expand the loggerhead sea turtle nesting area in Macaronesia. Poema del Mar participates in this ambitious breeding program in order to protect this species.
hanks to the creation of an enclosure specifically designed for this purpose, the nests that are obtained at the Aquarium, will be transferred to the beach of Cofete (Fuerteventura), where they will be controlled and maintained. With the aim of improving the survival of the offspring, once the eggs hatch, the small turtles will be collected and taken care of at Cabildo of Fuerteventura facilities for a year, when they will be returned to the beach to begin their great journey across the oceans.
